Obiettivi formativi
Il modulo si propone di approfondire lo studio di alcuni modelli di scrittura programmatica pubblicati in lingua francese durante i secoli XIX° e XX° e di fornire metodi e strumenti necessari all’analisi e all’interpretazione delle pulsioni ideologiche e delle strategie discorsive alla base degli stessi.
The module aims to explore several models of programmatic writing that were published in French during the XIXth and the XXth centuries. It also aims to provide the students with the critical analysis methods and tools that are needed to interpret the ideological impulses and the discursive strategies on which these texts are anchored.

Capacità di contestualizzare il Manifesto letterario in relazione ai principali sviluppi letterari, storico-culturali, e sociali di riferimento. In particolare, il corso sarà orientato a stimolare la riflessione attorno all’adozione, da parte degli intellettuali, di forme diverse di pubblica dichiarazione di principi in relazione allo sviluppo della società di massa e del suo ingresso sulla scena sociale. Capacità di analizzare finalità ideologiche e strategie discorsive specifiche dei testi programmatici francesi e francofoni del XIX° e XX° secolo, con opportuni metodi e strumenti di analisi.
Contextualisation of the literary Manifesto with respect to the principal literary and socio-cultural developments to which it refers. More specifically, the course will be oriented to stimulate the reflection concerning the intellectual choice of adopting different forms of public declaration in relation to the development of mass society and its entry on the social scene. Analysis of the ideological purposes and specific discursive strategies of French and francophone programmatic texts of the XIXth and the XXth centuries, with pertinent critical analysis methods and tools.

I Manifesti letterari
Il corso si propone di riflettere sulle specificità del Manifesto letterario quale ponte di collegamento tra letteratura e società. E’ previsto un percorso di lettura incentrato specificatamente sulle elaborazioni teoriche redatte dalle Avanguardie nel corso dei secoli XIX° e XX° allo scopo di spiegare e diffondere le nuove poetiche di area francese e francofona. Attraverso la selezione di un cospicuo numero di testi programmatici accomunati dalla tendenza a rompere con i codici artistici tradizionali, si intende organizzare un lavoro di carattere seminariale inteso ad indagare funzioni e necessità filosofiche, estetiche, politiche, letterarie dei Manifesti letterari. In particolare, si tratterà di studiare il ruolo persuasivo svolto dal Manifesto in relazione allo sviluppo della società di massa, alla fruizione del prodotto di natura intellettuale da parte di un pubblico sempre più ampio, e all’espansione dell’industria culturale.
The course aims to reflect on the specificity of the literary Manifesto as a bridge connecting literature to society. The course provides a reading itinerary specifically centred on the theoretical elaborations edited by the Avant-gardes between the XIXth and the XXth centuries with the intent to explain and diffuse new French and Francophone poetics. Through the selection of a conspicuous number of programmatic texts that are united by the common tendency to break with the traditional literary codes, we intend to organize and propose a workshop aiming to investigate the philosophical, aesthetic, political and literary functions of the literary Manifestos. In particular, the workshop will be centred on the study of the persuasive role played by the Manifestos in relation to the development of mass society, to the fruition of the intellectual product by a vast public and to the expansion of cultural industries.

The course can be chosen together with French Literature Module 1 as a 12 CFU integrated course.
The course, which is addressed to the students of the academic program ““Cultures and Literatures of the Modern world”, is however open to students from other programs.
